Large, Satisfying Nigiri at Harukoma Honten, a Tenma Sushi Institution Since 1953

Harukoma Honten is a casual choice for substantial sushi in Tenma. Four minutes from JR Temma Station in the fifth block of Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street, it is known for thick slices of fish at approachable prices. Founded in 1953, the restaurant takes no reservations and can draw a line. Diners write their choices on an order slip and hand it to the staff.

A Long-Running Sushi Shop in Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street

Harukoma Honten is at 5-5-2 Tenjinbashi, four minutes from JR Temma Station and five from Tenjinbashisuji 6-chome Station. The white sign and noren mark a compact counter-focused room where peak lunch and dinner waits are common. A nearby Harukoma branch is at 5-6-8, so share the address as well as the name when meeting.

Founded in 1953 and Selected for Tabelog's Sushi WEST Top 100

Founded in 1953 and selected for Tabelog's 2021 Sushi WEST Top 100, Harukoma is a casual sushi shop where nigiri, rolls, and small dishes can be ordered freely. Typical budgets are in the ¥1,000 range at lunch and ¥2,000 range at night. Thick toppings over relatively small rice portions put the fish at the center.

Write Your Order on a Slip and Hand It to the Staff

Write each item and quantity on the provided order sheet, then pass it to the staff. The system is straightforward even on a first visit and makes it easy to track an initial order and add more as the meal progresses. Service and seat turnover are generally brisk.

Large Pieces of Fish at Approachable Prices

The restaurant is known for large, thick-cut toppings and slightly smaller rice. Tuna, salmon, eel, silver-skinned fish, shellfish, and other choices vary with the season and market. Add red miso soup or fish dishes, focusing on nigiri at lunch or pairing small plates with drinks at night. Service may end when fish sells out, so an early visit offers the widest selection.

Even a Long Line Often Moves Relatively Smoothly

Lines are common at lunch and dinner, but the order-slip system and efficient service often keep them moving. Visiting off-peak can reduce the wait, while arriving late risks a smaller selection. Choose the timing based on whether waiting time or variety matters more.

No Reservations and Closed Tuesdays

Reservations, private rooms, and venue rental are unavailable. All seats are non-smoking, and there is no dedicated parking. Hours are 11:00–21:30 except Tuesday, ending earlier if fish sells out; two Wednesdays a month may also be closed, so check Instagram or call ahead. Cards are accepted, but electronic money and QR payments are not.

Menu items, prices, hours, and closing days may change.
